Spent 2 years at Coleman back in 1979-1981. 708 Maintenance Company. Good Times. Not then, but looking back 47 years, thanks for the memories. M. Daily
I Was stationed at Coleman Barracks in the Mortar Battery 18th Infantry. I was the instrument operator on a survey crew in 1958-60. We provided the Fire Direction Team with the battery center and target coordinates.
From the spring of 1967 until December 1968 I was in the medic platoon of Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion 13th Infantry. The battalion had three line companies A, B, & C. We had tracks and jeeps back then. I drove an M-718 frontline jeep ambulance which could hold three stretcher patients. During my time there, we went on maneuvers in Baumholder and Grafenwoehr. We were support for the Berlin Brigade in Graf with their tanks. It was August of ’68 and the day we were breaking camp is the day the Russians invaded Czechoslovakia. We went on alert and lined up on the Czech border. Nearly 20 years ago (I’m writing this in 2025) I got a phone call from someone asking if I served in the 2/13 in the late 60s. The caller was tracking down as many of us from that time as she could. This was the beginning of our 2/13 reunions in Branson, Missouri. First it was every other year. Now it is annually. One year we had a huge turnout. Colonel Thomas Blake and several of the Lt’s were there. Colonel Blake was a regular at the reunions and lived to 97. We missed a few reunions during Covid, but now, because we are getting on in years, we meet every year in Branson. Its a smaller group than when we started, but there is still plenty of good times. Jess Anderson is behind tracking everyone and organizing the reunions. For those of us who go to the reunions, it’s a bonding. Serving at Coleman was just a brief time in our young lives, but we formed a bond for life
This sounds so amazing that you all do this. I was there many years after you from 83 thru 85 in Charlie Co. Drove an APC for the Company commander Captain Karpinski. Many great times and some many great friends that I feel bad that I lost touch with after leaving. One of my favorite memories is we used to have competitions once a year in the summer doing different types of events. The one I love was they would get teams of 6 to see who could pull the APC 50 yards the fastest. Thanks for sharing your story!
Donnie Little, I was stationed at Coleman Barracks, 1983 thru 1986. A co (A Team) 97th Signal Bn. Great memories of all those I served with and the Manhiem , Sandhofen community for thier kindness and hospitality. Retired from Department of Justice enjoying life, in Jonesboro GA suberb to Atlanta.
