437) Roberto Huezo roberto@huezo.deLocation: Nuernberg, Germany | Saturday, 20. October 2007 14:50 Host: p5493BA21.dip0.t-ipconnect.de Thanks for this wonderful web site. It brought many great memories. I was assigned to 2/6 Inf from Oct 1985 to June 1992. I was in C company but for the Platoon Confidence Training (PCT) in 1986 I went to A company. I also spent a couple of years in 1/1 Cav in O’brien Barracks in Schwabach before coming back to Erlangen. I liked the place so much that I got an European-Out and stayed here. I studied at the University of Erlangen and got a Master Degree on Computational Linguistics and I am now a programmer here in Nürnberg and Fürth Area. I still see all of the places we all used to frequent. Some are still here most are gone. Let me mentioned a couple of places: B15’s, Lamagu, Genesis, Paesley’s Park, Strawberry-Fest, Black Bear, and Cheers. The buildings where the PX was and across of it are still there (they are protected by the government) as well as the 1/35 Armor Barracks, the NCO Club, the education center, MP station, Church, and the small building by gate 1, everything else is pretty much gone. I will try to take a few pictures and post them sometime later.
Old Ironsides…Roberto Huezo: I also wanted to write a couple of places in Nürnberg, Fürth, and Forcheim: Marylins, Nashville (with little Nashvile inside!), Green Goose, Fledermause, Y(psilon), Las Palmeras. How about those SMLN cards? Does anyone has a scanned version of those SMLN cards? I love some of the terms Soldiers give to their equipment: Mickey-Mouse boots, Whoopie-lights, Dummy-cord, making the ‘man’ in the guard duty pre-inspection. I miss those days…Kevin Salzman: Huezo you went through PCT with 2nd Platoon A co.. This is PFC Salzman, I have pics of you and Sgt Stringfellow and Turley during PCT. Man it woul dbe great to hear from you…… I checked out your website, is that your wife Silvia, what was her last name back then. Man dude, i am like floored right now, I don’t have many pics but I do have some….Kevin Salzman: By the way I do have an old SMLM card that still in pretty good condition. What happen to Bogarts? Or Club Nashville? |

Got a Master Degree on Computational Linguistics and I work as a Computer Programmer. Are you still in the Army?David Nerud: Hey, good to hear from you. Didn’t you get married to a German and stay there? I married one too and brought her back to the States.
I am still Active duty army and go on terminal leave 18 April next year. 178 days until then! Remember Anthony Mathew? We called him ‘Doc’? he and I are still in touch and still see each other every once in a while.
Good to hear from you!Roberto Huezo: Yeah, I married her but it didn’t work out on the long run. I remarried another german and now we have a little girl, Sofia. You remember Clinscales? Well after reaching SFC in Intelligence he went to Warrant Officers Course and now is a WO 1 or 2. Were are you? Do you guys come once in a while to Germany?
Thanks for replyingPhillip Smith: I was assigned to HHC 2/6Inf. I got there about the sae time CS Basingame got there to take over as the Bn CSM. I became the Bn Schools NCO / SQT NCO

I can remember watching AFRTS news broadcast aboutit. They reported that it happened at the railhead. I also think that this happened in 1980Martin: I was in 2/81 from 77 to 79. I remember the bullock/rogers incident. There was a Nat’l Guard tank that shot another in late 78 or 79. I was in HHC 1/35 Armor I remember there was a small opening in the wall in back of the Battalion HQ building late at night we would sneak in there to save a long walk from the main gate. The Battalion CQ officer kept a close eye on it and it was a high price to pay if you got caught. Remember the Mobil Burger King that would park in front of the PX later they built the Burger King and Bowling alloy. One of my platoon members dated the young red headed girl who worked in the mobil Burger King. :cool:Missie: That was Kristie |

They were coming from Ft. Hood. When I was there for a visit in ’94 the 3rd. Div. was there. This div. by the way captured my father-in-law in Genoa, Italy, Audie Murphy’s outfit. I didn’t want to get rid of the old message board. Sometimes the hackers and spammers get in there and by the time their done there’s not much left you can do.
A lot of these guys don’t understand the cost of running these things. All you old timers shake a leg, Arnie is coming for a short arms inspection. We know where you have been, shame on you . Boom Boom what’s happening, Miss Dirndl come on in the water is fine. Brown shoe Jim Fleming who gave me the heads up about General Eddies hard work. Dale are you still out there pushing the big brown? Shorty are you still above room tempature? Bad Bill Napier vos est los. Come on let’s shake the trees.
Art WoodfinDirndl: Hi Art, I have tried to get them all back on here.Dale had some issues with his computer or server.I know Arnie is still on here posting from time to time. How are things with you?Arnie: Hey Art, I’ve been here all along. Where is everyone?? This new Msg board works fine!! General Eddie made some changes for good reason I’m sure. Oh, don’t forget our “top sgt” Uncle Walt. A big “Hoooray” to everyone !!Eddie: The hackers got into the old board and messed things up. I never could get it working right again.
Once they get the address of a message board they put it in their favorites and make entries very two hours. Then they share the address with all their friends. Before long you get about fifty entries an hour.
On the old message board there were about 1200 registered users that were hackers and spammers.
On a guest book the address can be changed and the link to it every month or so, when they put it in their favorites it will not work. A message board will not work if you change the address to it and you will loose all the entries. That’s why we ended up with another message board. It’s also cheaper to put everyone on the same board.
Keeps me busy clearing the junk off the board.Dirndl: Eddie
Thanks again for all your work keeping the site going.I wish everybody would get back on here so we can rip on each other again.LOLArt Woodfin: WE love what you have done in the past and I know it’ll be better yet. Thanks for the fireworks. Let’s all send $5 to keep it going.

I have such fond memories of the Prinz Whatshisname Restaurant (We just knew it as the Pizza Bar….), and the close-knit family of Ferris Barracks during the first Gulf War (Although I could have dealt without the endless Bette Midler Medleys at the Homecoming Ceremonies!). I toured the site of the former Barracks three years ago, and I was shocked at the change; What hasn’t been torn down has been either preserved, annexed by Siemens, or turned into Condos. Picture the housing complex now completely re-stuccoed, re-landscaped, and with high-tech looking wire-mesh balconies! And I couldn’t find the Burger King/Bowling Alley to save my life!
MORE IMPORTANTLY, I am looking for my dad, James Perkins, who was an MP stationed at Ferris Barracks in the late 70s (approximately until 1976/77) and then returned to Indiana, where I was born on August 1, 1977. My mom, Ariane, and my dad divorced in Chicago in 1980 (or 81) and I haven’t seen him since. Regrettably, my mother has since passed away (1999 in a car accident in South Carolina), but I am extremely close to my family in Germany (Now all moved up to Bremen, but a few stragglers left in Nurnberg). I just thought it would be really neat to meet my dad, too! Anybody with any info???Marie Mindach-Putnam: Richard Hi! I was born in Nurburg in 1977 and also attended Erlangen Elementary school from 1984-1988. I think your in my year book. I’ll have to have my mother take a look since I’m back in Germany stationed at Ramstein, Germany now myself. I joined the AF. I’m sorry to hear about your mom. I hope you find you dad. I’ll ask some of the guys that my dad and mom are still in contact with. |

As most of you probably know, the kaserne no longer exists as we knew it; the area is now largely shared by Siemens and the Erlangen University hospital. The 2/50 and CCB/2nd Bde HQ building has been replaced by a Siemens building. Our barracks are gone, as are most of the post buildings, except the old brick buildings which have been remodeled. Erlangen has changed markedly; it is at least double in population from the 1960’s and is a port city on the Main-Donau Kanal.Ron: Good to see you here Frank. If anyone knows anything about the Fire Department on Ferris, let us know. We received the email below: ________________________________________
I’m the writer of the history of 150 years of Erlangen fire department (in 2006). When writing the book it was impossible for me to get detailed information about the US fire department that existed in Erlangen in the period of approx. 1946 until 1958.
Our only information have been the stories told by retired german firefighters who have been in service at this period. Nobody knows, were the firehouse was located at Ferris Barracks at this time. In addition we have been unable to print any picture of the US fire department in Erlangen for no picture was available……
Is there anybody in your team or any retired US soldier of this time who has got any information ????
Thanks in anticipation !

He passed away and his daughter (Nancy) was adopted during his tour in Germany. Since the adoption was not really discussed, she doesn’t have any information. She cannot locate a birth certificate and now finds herself without US identification. She was adopted in 1952 (at age 7 or 8 months old) and they returned stateside in 1955. So far that’s all the info I have but she is trying to dig out more. Any info you may have would be most appreciated and I’ll get it to her. She doesn’t know anything much about the internet so a mutual friend asked me to try to research it. I sure hope I have some luck. And if you Adopt while you in the Military there would be a legal Paper trail. You can not take a German Citicen without a legal Permission. I guess I hit Ferris Barricks around the end of 1990 or beginning of 1991. I got a european out and stayed in Germany another 5 years. I am really trying to find fellow veterans that might know me so I can get you know you again.

I am wondering if anyone here served with Max ‘Kappy’ in Germany around 1953/4?? I see his wife and son flew out to FRA from Chicopee in 1951 and they all flew home in 1954 from Prestwick to Idlewild Airport…
Thanks in advance

Hello. My husband Ed (Joe) Dipzinski and I were in Erlangen 1983-1985. He worked in the motor pool, diesel mechanic. My name is kathy and I worked at the officers club. We didn’t have kids there, so we drank a lot of beer and had a lot of fun. I had a good friend Lori and she was married to Danny. I would love to hear from her. And Rusha!
