  1. I was station there from1963 to 1966. I Loved Erlangen and Nuremberg. I played guitar with a band at the NCO Club and met a lot of good people. The 4th Armor Division was a top notched unit. We trained hard in Graffenwohl and Hoenfeldt.

We went on a 30 day Field Training Exercise beginning the first week of January. We wore white outer clothing with white Mickey Mouse Boots. Coldest training I ever experienced. Colder than when I went to Korea. At that timd, the M-60 tanks was introduced to match the Russian T 62 Tanks. I love the old military barracks, they were well built. I met many good soldiers there.

I re-enlisted at the end of my tour so I could go to Vietnam. I pulled one tour in Vietnam from 1967-1968. I was hit during the TET OFFENSIVE in March 1968. I am very proud of my Military service and wouldn’t change a thing. I pray for the members from my unit who didn’t make it back. I am under VA care for agent orange and PTSD. As I write this, I have been attached to an Oxygen Concentrator since 2017.’ I have been asked, why did you re,enlist in 1965, you had already served your commitment. I answers, be cause I love this Country.

  2. Erlangen was a fun place! Had a great time working with a lot of really good MPs when I was a Desk Sgt at the MP Station from 1972-1973! We had a great relationship with the local community also.

  3. 1985-1988. Alpha Gators 2/6 Infantry. Regulars on guard! LTC Weisman Bn Cdr. CPTs Ken Augusta and Bart Mcilroy company Cdrs. ISGs Pace and Wilson. PSGs, Legendary SFCs Merle Bledsoe Don Fulton. Our whole company attended the Platoon Confidence Course, Bad Toelz (mini Ranger School). We were all in top physical condition, log runs, barracks buddy assisted PT with stairs runs when the weather mandated. Had a lot of EDREs that kept us combat ready. Graf to keep us master marksmen and solid as small units, company and battalion with LFXs. Hohenfels for force on force using MILES gear for tested unit proficiency. Real mission to defend in the Fulda Gap against any possible Czech offensives. Weisman had the entire battalion in the theater and I heard “ I’m proud to be an American” by Lee Greenwood for the very first time. We were highly trained, motivated and ready for any mission. I’m very proud to have served with such great Americans, dedicated professionals— in our young men days. DG
