    1. Sabine, I’m sorry to hear about Joe. You may not remember me but I was the gunner on Joe’s tank. We spent a many a night at the EM club listening to Pat Patrick ‘s Horse Power country band. I remember coming over to your apartment with Joe. Yes he was a great guy and I will always remember him and you. Feel free to contact me anytime to reminisce the past. 2. We were stationed in Erlangen from 1983-1987. My son was born there. He is 38 years old. I have 2 older daughters. The memories. I would go back in a heartbeat. Such a friendly college town. Our bucket list, me and my son. Is to go back to his Birthplace for a history lesson. Johann Kalb Strasse….

    1. Toni, do you remember which building? My stepdad was stationed there from, I believe, 1985 until August 1989 and we lived in housing, also on Johann Kalb. I just don’t remember the building number, but I do know that the Officer’s Club was right behind our building. The other end of the building was close to the gate. We used to go through there to get to the movie theater that was right inside the gate.
One of my absolute favorite memories was going to the hill in the “dog field” during the winter after a good snow. We would be there for hours just sledding down the hill. A lot of the kids from housing would be there.

I was 13 when we moved to the US. The times I had there will forever be with me.

  3. S P 4 Jeff Holland was stationed there 1964-1966. Prior to 36th 8″ sp Artillery unit Service Btry.moving to NUE ULM what a great group of guys. And spent some time at George’s down town. I grew up a lot knowing what a friend was.

  4. I was stationed here from Jan 1985 to June 1986 . So many memories of Denise Scott. Geta Catus Cpt. McMahon. So many more people Diana Bahamundi. Charlie Baldwin

A huge adventure for a young person. Enjoyed the beauty of the city.

    1. I was just browsing on Ferris barracks history. I too was stationed there in early 86 – 87 . I vaguely remember sgt McKay, sgt Huff, I do remember Bahamundi and Rose. Good times for life’s learning adventures. Wouldn’t trade it for the world. Eric Wilson. Please reply with any memories. Thanks.

  5. C Company 3rd Plt 2/81 Armor 1974 – 1978, Loved every minute of it. Loved Erlangen and Nürnberg. I had an apartment on Rollnerstr 43 in Nürnberg

  6. My father was stationed here in 1959-1961. He would have been a Captain and his name was Richard S Schott. He was killed in Vietnam as a Lt.Col in 1972. My family and I are working on compiling a history and would appreciate hearing from anyone who served with or under him.

    Thanks

  7. I was stationed at Ferris Barracks from March 1978-July 1979, having transferred into the 2nd Platoon, 630th MP Co, 793d MP Bn as a Spec4. It was a lot different than my 18 months in Ansbach … no general officer, so we never pulled front gate duty or flag detail in front of the 1st AD HQ! As Military Police, we tended to hang out at a bar called Oeder’s, which unfortunately burned down not too long after I ETS’d.

I was the firsts/only female MP assigned to the 630th; however our sister unit, the 501st MP Co, had a number of women who worked road patrol, desk sergeant, and MPI/CID. The only negative thing was that the barracks for women were on the opposite side of the post from the platoon’s barracks for men as well as our office/day room. I finally bought myself a car to save myself the long walk over there and back. At times I had to go there as many as four times a day. At that time the women’s barracks were over crowded and we were sandwiched into a single room with FOUR women all on different shifts.

I wrote a letter to the Stars & Stripes about the situation, and it was resolved the day it was printed. The newspaper kept my name off the letter, but specified the location as Erlangen. There was quite a witch hunt for the author, but I never told anybody … not even my best friend or my boyfriend (another MP) at that time. In fact, us four stayed in the same single room because one girl was set to move out the next week and I was heading home within a month. So I never got caught out on that escapade.

One of the things I remember fondly is watching M*A*S*H* in the day room every week. Also, while I was there, the broadcast the Super Bowl live for the first time. Word had it that there wasn’t a single crime in USAREUR that night. Hard to say if it was that the potential hoodlums were watching the games or the fact that the MP’s were all in the station or in the barracks watching live football that night.
