  1. I believe that the Flak Kaserne photo at the beginning of the page is of Flak Kaserne in Augsburg, where I was stationed in 1973/74.

  2. I was there from August 1999 to July 2002 and love it!!!!!! Went from SPC to E5(P), Rosa Alvarez

  3. Hello everyone I was stationed there at Flak Kaserne 1968 and 1969 I worked the motor pool for the 15th Trans Co. I lived off post on the Economy just east of the main gate, I really enjoyed my time there, My oldest son was born there in 69, then I came down on Levy to go to Nam in October. Got out of Army in Dec of 1970. Does anyone have a photo of the sleeve patches for the 15th Trans co, I cannot find them anywhere. All the pictures I took in Germany in Uniform does not show the Patch on my Sleeve. if you got it please post it. Spec 5 J.R. Grooms Thanks.

  4. was at Flak 70-71 569th PSC we moved to Nurnberg Merrill Barracks in 71 buildings were old run down but liked the small town, had a decent time once I got used to the long hours, still remember the guys, flip beer bottles

  5. Stationed there 79-83. Commanded 3rd Bn/71st ADA , Direct Support Unit. Nike-Hercules, 32nd Air Defense Command. Great group of soldiers.

  6. I was stationed there from July 1981 thru December 1982 at 396th Transportation. Enjoyed it while I was there.

    1. It was the most miserable place on earth for me. For 3 yrs I never had a day off. Reforger and a warrant Officer who locked us in the attic where records were stored and made us sleep in sleeping bags by our desk. We had to bank on the steel door to be allowed to use the restrooms. REFORGER every year for 30 days at a time and constantly at level 4 working in gas mask and full chemical gear. No life and 2 of the female soldiers attempted suicide while many of the guys developed a stress condition where their hair fell out in patches… How did you “enjoy it”?

  7. They welcomed me to “HELL” at Flak Karerne 198th Personnel Service CO, 7th corp, Great friends but worse assignment of my life. Left my boots up in a tree there and dumped my unifoms in the dumpster. Worked 17 hrs a day and 7 REFORGERS, ran 12 miles a day and rarely ever had the opportunity to sleep at home. Instead we bunked next to our beds in the attick where records were stored. Place was haunted and bodies supposidly buried under the basement floor from the war. Bullet holes lined the walls of past conflict and it was the most depressing place on earth. 2 female soldiers attempted suicide and numerous other took heroin and turned into junkies. HELL was a good name for this place. Torn down now. I would love to find Guilbau, one of my friends and many others. Sad place sad memories…. F the ARMY!

    1. Sorry about your friend.. Do you remember the store behide the Kaserne and the old German man who snuck soldiers in the back on Sundays when he wasnt allowed to be open? He made the best sandwiches.. Loved American Troops. He lived through the war and told me if it wasnt for the Americans he would have died. They fed him and saved Germany when bodies lined the streets in the snow….

  11. 1972 until 1975 Left in April Big Mistake, Left my friend’s and Heart at Flak. Can’t Believe This Small Place Home of So Many Different Units 32nd; 396th Sister Units. 1. 569 personnel service company. Served there 1966 to 1968. Personnel specialist. Loved it there and couldn’t be luckier than sitting behind a desk in Germany during that period. Saw many individuals go to Viet Nam. I’m

      1. Bob, I’m trying to place you but its been a long time. I started my Germany assignment shortly before the 3rd Support Brigade and 569th PSC were organized in 1965. Was at Grenadier Kaserne in Stuttgart to start and Brigade Headquarters remained there when 569th moved to Flak. I was with 569 until Sept 1967 when I returned to CONUS. Remember some great times.

        Ron Niemann, SP5

      2. Arrived in 1970 569th was the first building on the right when you entered the main gate. I too was a personnel management specialist 71h30 commander was Major Rayford Johnson we moved to Nurnberg in 1971 missed the small town atmosphere around Flak and well rest of the problems of the big post were quite a change. ETS’d later the year took about 3-4 days to get to Conus
