SCHLOSS KASERNE

BUTZBACH, GERMANY

The ‘Schloss’ itself was build in the mid 1600’s. Since the 1800’s it was used as a Kaserne. After WW2 the american forces took over the premisses. Many units were stationed here, including infantry, military police and the NCO academy of the 3rd arm. division. Because of its historic background, it was called ‘the oldest US installation in germany’. In 1991 the US army left Schloss Kaserne in Butzbach.

I was station there for a year and half. I was 19 years old. We had a big area to patrol Butzbach, Friedberg and surroundings areas. I enjoyed driving around the countryside. My roommate was William Phipps from Chester Pennsylvania. I enjoyed the people, architecture, food, drinks and scenery. LBarnas@roadrunner.com

  6. Lived here from 1998-2001. Most of my favorite childhood memories came from here. Sadly it’s gone but I plan to try to visit eventually. Everyday after school, would go to the Imbiss and get the cheese fries.

  7. Does anyone remember 1Sgt Paul Wilson who was killed in 1983 along with few soldiers in a car accident. If you have any pictures that would be cool.
