Comments: I was a dependant, and my father was stationed at Ferris Barracks. I lived there from August/September 1985 – Jan. 1990. I really enjoyed my time there and still fondly look back at those years I spent there. I really miss the place

Comments: I was stationed at Ferris Barracks from April 75 through February 78. I was a Chaplain’s Assistant, assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade. I had a great time and meet many soldiers along with many german civilians. It’s nice to see some to the pictures on the web site.

Comments: Back in 1951-53, I was an Army brat living in Erlangen. This was before they built dependent housing, so our family lived at 8 Atzelsberger Steige, west of Strawberry Hill. The neighborhood had American families scattered throughout it. This was still during the military occupation and the large cities had extensive war damage. I’ve always felt fortunate to have been in Germany at this time and remember it fondly.

  7. Hope to see a lot of people hitting this board. We all love seeing who and what everyone has to say.

  8. Hey troops! I was there in AVUM Trp, 2CAS, 2ACR, from Jan. 1984 ’til Feb. 1986, in the Engine Shop with Jerry Ramirez, Joel Bales, Andy Agar, and dozens of others from Allied Shops.

I got out in 1990, and still live in the Nürnberg area, and work at the Nürnberg Airport.

There is absolutely nothing left of the Nürnberg Military Area as we knew it. Feucht Airfield is primarily a freight sorting building from the post office, the runway has been torn out, the hangar belongs to the Nürnberg Symphony, and our small shops hangar is a tire shop, and the barracks there are full of immagrants. Merrill Barracks has been remodelled (looks good), and the main builing belongs to the German political system. The rest has been torn down, and other things built on the property.

It would be great to hear from anyone from FAAF and the Cav, so drop me a line!

Best regards to all! Always Ready Sir!

  10. Goodkin,

Death rides a pogostick, as I recall what us Savage troopers used to say. I was at FAAF for 1989-1991 period, shipped over to Desert Storm/Shield with “Little Buddy 6” as CO. Things I remember about FAAF? Sgt. Powell was the biggest a**hole I ever met, and Rich Henry getting us arrested by the polizei. That, and the Irish Pub where I first learned to love tequila and Guinness. I wonder what ever happened to my little blue Ford Taunus…I never knew a 1.6 L engine could do 193 km/hr on the way to Rotenburg!

  11. Hi, I was wondering if anyone remembers Gisbert Karl Metzig. He was stationed in the Army as an SP4 in Feucht or Nuernberg in the late 50’s. He died in 1960. I was two when he died; I never knew him. Is there anyone out there that remembers him? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I lived in Feucht until 1974; I actually met some guys that were stationed there in the early 70’s. One of them was David, just can’t remember his last name. We used to go partying at this one popular club, just can’t remember the name of that either. Thank you and bye!

  12. Good day all, I just signed up on this splendid community and desired to say hi there! Have a wonderful day!

  13. I loved it over there. Wish I could go back again someday, but that’s not looking possible due to all the things going on right now. I was station at William O Darby Kaserne in Füth the first time over and Merrell Barracks the second time.

LOVED ALMOST EVERY MINUTE OF IT. DIDN’T THINK I WOULD LIKE GERMANY WHEN I GOT ORDERS TO GO, BUT WITHIN TWO DAYS AFTER I GOT THERE IT WAS LOOKING PRETTY GOOD TO ME. AFTER I MOVED INTO AN APARTMENT IN NÜRNBERG I REALLY LOVING THE PLACE. WE LIVED A ROLLNERSTR 43 JUS AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE TUCHER BREWERY, WHITCH ENDED UP BEING MY FAVORITE BEER. STILL BUY IT TO THIS DAY WHENEVER I CAN FIND SOME.

    1. Did you ever visit the Goldener Hecht while you were in Erlangen? Most of the GI’s called the place the Golden Hex. Don’t tell me you never have because I know you stayed upstairs over the place for about 2 years. Loved that place.

      1. Yes and I know who you are because only a few knew about me staying there during the week. On weekends I stayed in Nürnberg.
