  1. I WAS STATIONED AT WARNER BARRACKS FROM AUGUST 1966 UNTIL I ROTATED TO CONUS IN MARCH OF 1968. I WAS ASSIGNED TO HHC 1ST BN 54TH INFANTRY. WHEN I GOT THERE IN 19665 I WAS ASSIGNED TO THE DAVEY CROCKETT NUCLEAR MORTAR SECTION AND REMAINED THERE UNTIL THE SUMMER OF 1967 WHEN THE WEAPON WAS DECLARED OBSOLETE AND WE TURNED IN THE WEAPOON AND WARHEADS. I THEN BECAME THE HHC SUPPLY TRUCK DRIVER AND CLERK. WHEN MY SGT DECIDED TO LEAVE THE ARMY AND REJOIN THE AIR FORCE I TOOK OVER HIS SLOT AT COMPANY SUPPLY CLERK. GOT PROMOTED TO E-5 AND REMAINED AS SUPPLY SGT UNTIL JANUARY OF 1968 WHEN A REPLACEMENT E-6 SUPPLY SGT. CAME IN FROM KOREA. I THEN BECAME EXCESS AND GOOFED OFF FOR MY REMAINING 2 MONTHS AND A WAKEUP. 1ST SGT DELUCIA TOOK GOOD CARE OF ME AND ALONG WITH LT. MINDEN I DID LITTLE EXCEPT RUN ERRANDS FOR THEM. BEING I HAD A SECRET CLEARANCE I STILL HAD TO PULL CUSTODIAL AGENT AT THE NUKE WARHEAD STORAGE SIGHT EVERY THREE WEEKS OR SO. ALSO PULLED SP DUTY WITH THE POST MPS ONCE A WEEK WHERE THEY PUT TO SPS AND TWO MPS IN A JEEP FOR TOWN PATROL. THINGS WERE STARTING TO GET ROWDY DOWNTOWN WITH AND INFLUX OF TROOPS WHO WERE NOT QUALITY SOLDIERS. STAYED ON POST MOST OF THE TIME DUE TO POTENTIAL PROBLEMS DOWNTOWN AND SPENT TIME AT THE ROD AND GUN CLUB. ALL IN ALL DUTY IN BAMBERG WAS PRETTY DAMN GOOD. NOT TO MANY GI.S THERE AND THERE WERE LITTLE OF NO PROBLEMS DOWNTOWN WHEN I FIRST GOT THERE. LATER ON THINGS WERE NOT SO GOOD. WOULD I DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN?> I DONT THINK SO. I WAS A DRAFTEE AND COUNTED THE DAYS FROM DAY ONE UNTIL I GOT OUT SO I COULD RESUME THE LIFE I LED AND WAS GOING TO LEAD IN CIVILIAN LIFE. I MISS THE FRIENDS I MADE BUT TO THIS DAY KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THOSE THAT ARE LEFT ALIVE. WE HAD A SMALL UNITI WITH DAVEY CROCKETT. ONLY 10 OF US PLUS AN E-6 SGT WHO RAN THE SHOW. SGT FEASTER WAS HIS NAME. SERVED WITH LYLY WALDAHL. PHIL HOWARD, ED PITAK, BOB CLOER, FRAN WILD, JERRY BADDERS, SGT WHITMIRE, CAL WOODHOUSE, BOB HAZEL AND ONE MORE WHOSE NAME I CANNOT REMEMBER.

  2. Hey I was wondering if anybody knew Dallas Ketron he served from 73-75 at Warner barracks he started out as a recovery specialist and went to being a truck driver TIA

  3. I was at warner barracks from 1972 till 1974 in headquarters battery 2/78 FA. I can’t find anyone from my era or unit anywhere. If your out there let me know please

    1. Dale W. Strand, there are a lot of the 2-78 FA soldiers on the Warner Barracks site on Facebook. Not sure if you have access to that site but you can request access by answering the questions on the site. I knew a few of the guys that were there, such as CSM Mann, another guy that was a cook there by the name of Pulley. Unfortunately, but have passed away. Hope this helps.

  4. Served with the 2nd Armored Cav.. 76-78.. Tank mechanic. I heard that most of the area where the barracks are located is a restricted area.

I would love to return as see all the changes and all that hasn’t changed.

    1. Robert, yes that area is restricted to only the Bundespolizei and its employee’s. You can still try asking at the gate if you can go in and look. They can only say no. That area has just some minor changes. If you are on FB there is a site where you can see photos that I have posted before it closed. I got into most of the billets and the HQ’s before it closed and snapped many pictures. I was across the street from 1973 to 1991 in 3-35 Amor and I am still here in Bamberg.
