  1. I was in the 16th engineering battalion D Company at Johnson Barracks from 1984 to 87. Good times. I went back to Furth nearly every other summer for about 10 years. I was surprised to read about the barracks being converted to car lots and other businesses. As I recall, by the mid-90’s parts of it had been converted to civilian housing.

I remember Rick Wright well, Did a lot of really crazy shit with that old boy!
Also saw Danny Hayes and Jon Tromle’s name on this list. Along with a bunch of the guys from the 4th floor!
I miss places like the “Star Club” and the “Drounland” (sp.? no umloute)
Feels like a hole in me now that they’ve knocked that place down, (coulden’t have thought I’d feel that way about the place)
Made a lot of great friends there!

  4. My father M/sgt. Ray E. Hunigan was stationd at Pinder Barracks Zirndorf Germany. We were stationed in Nurnberg, Furth and Zirndorf. I was 11 years old and would walk from our house near Alta Vista Restuant to play pool at the service club in 1953. Dad would visit Howenstines (guess that is the way you spell it) at the Round House for a beer every now and then. I don’t know if it is still in existence.
