I remember many a cold night spent in my medical apc trying to sleep sitting up in my drivers seat and having to turn my heater on and off all through the night to stay warm in Graf.
1982 to 1983 1/46th Mechanized Infantry. Ferris Barracks. Erlangen.
Warner Barracks 67/68. Medic–I remember those days at Graf. Very Cold—we has guys with frostbite–not good. I was with the 2/54th Infantry 4thAD. I understand where you are comming from.
My husband E5 Edward L. & myself E5 Lynn M (until i went back to the states) we stationed here at Carl Schurz-Kaserne, 59th finance in Bremerhaven, W GY. we also had our son who was born here. It was pretty amazing to see the Naval ships come in and to see the Nina, Santa Maria & Pinta come through. we were here from 1982-1985. (an added note) My dad Buddy Sr.-(US Army) and a first cousin-Steven (Air Force) and his wife-Feli (also military air force) and children were station in the chemical building behind the Finance Office. It was great seeing them after a number of years. I hate this base was closed; because my son wanted to see it and also to visit Garlstadt. He is determined to see the housing area we lived in when we were there, located off the base.
Warner Barracks Bamberg. ’77-’80. The experiences 50yrs ago were all good. But I can think of a couple times like when my APC heater died in the middle of winter in Graf. (or Hohenfels) Not so fun.

I was born and raised on many Army bases, and it was the best life ever. Three different tours in Germany and a few tours in Texas and Louisiana.

It is sad to see our history just removed.
